A Nightmare on Elm Street Review

A Nightmare on Elm Street is one of those movies that will literally keep you awake. It is really disturbing and apparently based off a true story which makes it all the worse. But, it does have young Johnny Depp in it so I guess that makes up for it.

Nightmare on Elm Street follows the story of Nancy and her friends as they are picked off in their sleep by a killer called Freddy. Freddy turns out to be a man who abused the friends as children and their parents killed him off to stop the abuse. Nancy tries to stay awake but soon realises that this will never help and decides to hatch a plan to stop Freddy. In the end it is speculated that she gets rid of him completely but then her mother is dragged through a window by Freddy so the ending is actually ambiguous. Did Freddy really come to an end or is he going to be haunting your dreams next?

Nightmare on Elm Street is a classic and is just amazing. The storyline is complex but at the same time not hard to follow and the characters are all pretty interesting. I watched the remake before I watched the original and the remake is a lot darker than the original but the original Freddy actually scared me more. Freddy is incredibly camp and fun in a  twisted, spooky way, and this just adds to the horror. He has fun killing his victims and enjoys the chase which is just sadistic.

I love this movie. It’s one I could watch countless times as it’s just never boring. It’s also one of those situations where really, you can’t win, either you die by sleep deprivation or by Freddy. I would definitely recommend you watch it, just maybe not before you go to bed.

What do you think of Nightmare on Elm Street?

Until next time.
