Best Movies of 2016
Now, I love these sorts of posts, I love arguing about these sorts of posts and how they’re ‘oh so wrong’ and how ‘that movie they said was great was actually rubbish!’ but I wanted to put my own together as I am a film reviewer after all and this is what I do.
Now before you say ‘oh but blah blah movie was so much better then this one!’ just take into account that maybe I haven’t seen it or it may be on my worst of 2016 list. Now that’d be interesting!
Anyway, here are my top films of 2016! (in no particular order)
Zootopia! Zootopia is a great kid’s movie with a moral message of racism. It has a lot of twists for a Disney movie that surprised even me and has some incredibly loveable characters. There are even little jokes involving Breaking Bad which was very funny to see even for someone who has never watched Breaking Bad. I love this movie and I’m sure you will to. It is definitely a movie for all ages.
Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them was a movie I wasn’t looking forward to watching. But, after watching it, the same old magic from Harry Potter returned and I was glued to the screen for the entirety. With an amazing storyline, funny characters, and the most adorable beasts it is definitely a movie to watch even if you haven’t seen Harry Potter. Maybe it’ll be your gateway into the Potter universe!
Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children is an amazing movie. Starting out as a book it is incredibly clever, very interesting and the effects are brilliant. The characters all have their own quirks which is so lovely to see as none get left behind and the storyline is not too long or boring. If you haven’t seen this movie you should just for the effects.
The Conjuring 2 is a great movie and honestly my favourite out of the two. It follows a British poltergeist that was debated upon due to the fact that it may not actually have been real. Now, of course, in the movie it had to be because otherwise there would’ve been no storyline, but the actual true story is very interesting. This movie definitely opens up that story for you and has a lot of jump scares and creepy moments to keep you right on the edge of your seat!
Sausage Party is a movie I didn’t think I’d like but really did. It has a lot of twisted and messed up humour and a few scenes even I couldn’t watch because of how awkward they were but overall I loved this movie. I would quite happily watch it again with my friends but maybe not alone. It is definitely a movie to be enjoyed with others, especially if you’re a little drunk, as it will make you cry with laughter.
Captain America: Civil War wasn’t my favourite movie of the year but definitely deserves to be in the top 10 for how awesome it was. From Ant-Man growing to enormous proportions to the introduction of the new Spiderman it was a very interesting movie. I just wish there were more fight scenes within it with the Avengers.
Oh Finding Dory you adorable little movie you! I love this movie almost as much as the original. Sitting in a cinema full of eight year olds wasn’t my finest hour but the movie definitely made up for the awkwardness. This movie is adorable, it’ll make you laugh, it may make you cry and it’ll reunite all your favourite characters into one movie again and make you realise why you love them so much. Bailey the Beluga was definitely my favourite new addition.
Ah Deadpool! I could not miss out Deadpool. This movie is absolutely amazing. I think it is my top movie from 2016 just because it is so clever and has so many layers to it. I didn’t think I would like this movie but I really, really do. If you haven’t seen this movie go watch it because it is a masterpiece. It does have gory moments, but the action sequences, editing, dialogue and characters really make up for any moment you can’t watch. Go watch this movie! Seriously! Go do it now!
The Purge: Election Year was good but wasn’t as good as Anarchy. It has an interesting moral as did the second but is a bit on the nose. The characters are all well and good and some scenes are brilliant but it’s all a bit jokey too. Especially the girl on a killing spree because she didn’t get a chocolate bar. But then again, doesn’t that just mirror our society perfectly? Go watch this one, but if you haven’t, definitely watch The Purge: Anarchy, because it is amazing.
The BFG is a stunning movie with a weird storyline. It features the Queen going into battle which is strange but don’t let that put you off. It is a beautiful story with such stunning visuals that will leave you wanting to set them all as your screensavers. The evil giants are terrifying too and honestly had me on the edge of my seat at times. It’s a great adaptation with some great actors and is definitely not just a film for children. Go watch it and be mesmerised by just how stunning it is.
What do you think of my list? What are your top movies of this year?
Until next time.
