The Lost Boys Review

The other day I did a poll on Twitter (check it out if you don’t already follow) on what you’d like to see reviewed next and The Lost Boys won. I love eighties films and this is one that I could watch over and over and still enjoy. It also includes my favourite eighties actor, Corey Feldman *blushes*.

The Lost Boys follows brothers Michael and Sam who move to Santa Carla in California to live with their granddad. Soon things start getting weird when Michael makes friends with some very peculiar characters because he gets a crush on one of the group, Star, who sadly has a boyfriend, David. Can I just say David is played by Kiefer Sutherland who plays Jack in 24! He looks so different!

Anyway, it turns out Star and David and their gang are all…vampires! (no they don’t sparkle) Michael soon becomes a vampire and Sam has to get his friends, the Frog brothers Edgar and Alan who tell them that he may not be completely turned and if they kill the head vampire Michael will turn back to normal. But of course not is all as it seems…

I love The Lost Boys. I watched a documentary behind-the-scenes that stated that the movie is supposed to be a horror comedy, yes it is scary but it also has little moments in it that will make you laugh out loud. The acting is, of course, brilliant and the story really holds up. Even though it was made nearly 30(!) years ago it still holds up today and is something you can really enjoy despite the age.

I really recommend this movie but I am biased as I have grown up with eighties movies. But, if you like vampires, real vampires with fangs and scary faces, oh like the one above! Then this is a great movie for you. The humour adds an extra element that conventional vampire movies don’t have and the twist in the end will definitely keep you on your toes.

Have you seen The Lost Boys? What do you think?

Until next time.
