Baby Driver Trailer Review
Ok, my first thought was, how does Ansel Elgort get this sort of role? This does not seem like his character type. And honestly, this movie didn’t excite me, until I saw Edgar Wright’s name within it. And we all know how much I love him.
Baby Driver is the newest creation from Edgar Wright. It stars, as I’ve already mentioned, Ansel Elgort as the main character ‘Baby’ but also hosts a bunch of other stars including Jamie Foxx, Kevin Spacey and Lily James.
Now, they released so many trailers for this movie but the one I’m going to refer to is the international trailer, my favourite. From the trailer Baby is a boy who drives incredibly well and incredibly fast. He had an accident as a kid meaning he likes to listen to music to drown out the noises. They’re clearly not good people due to police chases and the lovely balaclavas and he clearly wants out but the main boss won’t let this happen, even taking it to extremes of threatening his girlfriend, Lily James. The movie looks like it’s focusing on Baby and his torment with the rest of the team and how he wants his freedom. This equals a lot of car chases, a lot of guns and a lot of action. But the difference here is, it’s got a sprinkle of the Edgar Wright magic touch.
If you don’t get what I’m saying, Edgar is incredibly clever. He knows movies, he knows how to get a reaction from an audience and this is usually through comedy. Yes this movie is full of action and violence but you know it’ll also be light hearted and funny.
I’m interested to see where this goes because it is something new for me in Edgar Wright’s film library. I’ve watched the Cornetto Trilogy and loved it incredibly, but this is different. It’s American, it’s full of action and to be honest the last action movie I saw Edgar do is a toss up between Hot Fuzz and Scott Pilgrim vs the World (great movies though I definitely recommend a watch).
I think this movie is going to be great! I’m excited to see it and see how Edgar plays with this new environment. I hope the marriage between comedy and action works so well as it has in other movies I have recently seen.
What do you think of Baby Driver?
Until next time.
