Where Is It Review

Can I just start this review by saying; does anyone else get annoyed there isn’t a question mark in the title? No? Just me? Well ok then.

To the review!

Where Is It is a short film I found on Twitter and thought I would review because I love a good horror short film.

The whole short is ‘filmed’ on Skype with two people talking to each other. One has just come home from being away and the other was her house sitter while she was gone. A mirror had ‘accidentally’ fallen off the wall and as the two women are chatting the words ‘where is it’ have been written where the mirror was, in presumably blood. The woman in the house starts looking around to see if there is an intruder when the words are showing up more and more around her. Suddenly a demon like creature is behind the woman and pounces on her thus ending the film.

Dun dun dun, horrifying. What I loved about this film was I tried to create one like this for my final year piece at university, which did not go down well at all so to see it done well is an achievement because I know the amount of effort that goes into it. The story is very tense so keeps you on the edge of your seat and does make you want to know more.

My only issue is the demon like person. He kind of came out of nowhere and maybe just a normal masked man would’ve been better especially if the audience had some inkling to what the thing he was looking for was. Now I guess, unless there is another part to this tale, we won’t know what it was and what happened. It’s a shame because I’d love to know more and do think there is a bigger story to be told here.

The idea of home invasions is simple but when done effectively can cause a massive impact and I thought, even though this was quite simple, it really did create a scare and had me checking for broken mirrors and demons too.

The main thing is I want to know more. What is he looking for? Where did he come from? And why her? It’s all very interesting so I definitely recommend you giving this short film a watch too and let me know what you think!

Until next time.
