Scary Movie 5 Review
This is definitely where the film series dropped off for me. It was good, and then this, this was just weird.
Scary Movie 5 focuses on a few different movies including The Evil Dead, Mama, Black Swan, and Paranormal Activity to name a few. It has new main characters which seemed odd to me, I honestly missed Brenda far more than I’d like to admit.
But anyway, the story goes basically the same as Mama where a couple find their brother’s long lost kids in a cabin in the woods (well actually Snoop Dogg does) and they get a free amazing house if they document their lives there. Hilarity ensues when Caesar the monkey joins the family and the ‘crazy’ housekeeper goes on about spirits and demons. Alongside this, Jody (Ashely Tisdale) starts to get back into ballet and finds a frenemy in Kendra Brooks. It’s a strange set of circumstances that kind of come together and make sense but doesn’t really. It does make fun of the ending of Mama though and that did make me happy as I hate that ending.
I mean, don’t get me wrong, it’s a good parody. You can easily recognise what the source material was and how well they portrayed it. But that’s about it. I felt a lot of the jokes were out of touch or just weren’t funny and it didn’t seem to have the same flare as the other films. Yes Scary Movie 4 wasn’t as amazing as the earlier ones but it still had its funny moments. This felt too try hard and the new cast just didn’t sell it.
I would still watch this as a fun little thing to watch with friends but I’d much prefer to watch the earlier ones if they were an option. This one was good but doesn’t hold a candle to the others and while that’s a shame it had to happen sooner or later didn’t it?
My favourite has and will always be Scary Movie 3.
Until next time.
