RuPaul’s Drag Race Holi-slay Spectacular Review
So I saw this on Netflix, and one of my favourite review channels (@moviebitches) had done a review so I knew I had to watch it immediately! Actually watching it though, well what a disaster that was!
In this one off special, musical (might I add) episode, some of the most festive and awesome queens return to battle it out to be Christmas queen. It all started out pretty good with the walk ins and the banter, then Ru entered…and started singing…and it all went downhill from there.
It soon become very apparent that this was basically an hour long ad for Ru’s Christmas album and throughout the episode we had to be subjected to many of the songs. Some, yes, I did add to my festive playlist but most were just a bit too cheesy.
Then it got weird. Like we were told at the start this was a competition but it was far too short and crammed in to really make it one. It would’ve been better if it was more of a festive reunion than an actual normal episode of Drag Race with a bit more tinsel. And when the winner was announced, well I can’t say I was disappointed, but I did think ‘wow what a waste of time that was!’.
While this could’ve worked in theory the actual special was pretty dire and felt cheap. It was Ru’s show all about Ru and even the fun quirkiness just seemed too overdone and staged. I think I’ll stick to All Stars thank you.
And don’t even get me started on Elf Ross. I know drag is fun and quirky but that was too far.
What did you think of RuPaul’s Drag Race Holi-slay Spectacular?
Until next time.
