The Battle of Ranskoor Av Kolos Review
The finale of Doctor Who has finally come! What a whirlwind season this was! What did I think of the finale? Well…
We land in the Battle of Ranskoor Av Kolos which really didn’t look much like a battle at all. Good old Tim the teeth guy from the first episode is back and has landed on a strange planet where these two people believe he is a God. He uses this to his advantage and starts killing off planets and finally takes aim at Earth.
Was this a good finale episode? No. not at all. I get what they were trying to do with the call back with Tim and that but it just felt a bit underwhelming. As a stand alone episode it was perfectly fine but when this is it, it wasn’t as good as it could’ve been.
I did however like Graham’s little storyline about how he wanted to kill Tim but didn’t in the end and the Doctor tells him this makes him incredibly strong which is a wonderful message. I honestly expected something bad to happen to one of the characters but when they all got away fine it was a bit like ‘oh…that was it?’
I expect more punch from a finale. It should give you the feeling that you don’t want it to end and make you angry you have to wait until New Year for another episode but this just didn’t do that for me. I expected more shock and excitement and instead I got a pretty lousy villain and a very wrapped up in a neat little bow ending.
Don’t get me wrong, I love all the characters. But if something happened to one of them I wouldn’t have been shocked or annoyed. Think back to the first episode, I expected that punchy-ness form this episode and it just wasn’t there.
While this season has been good overall this episode definitely deflated it a little.
What did you think of the finale?
Until next time.
