The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge on the Run Review
No I don’t know why I watched this movie either.
Sponge on the Run follow SpongeBob as he tries to track down his beloved snail Gary who has been taken by Poseidon to be his new skincare, yes you read that right.
The reason I watched this movie was because I was looking for something lighthearted to watch but also I loved the original SpongeBob movie from my childhood. So the cynical part of me wondered how they would bring it into a new audience and I won’t lie, it was very well done. The animation style was a bit odd at first but I do understand that the sort of 3-D almost clay-like animations work better in the new world rather than simple drawn cartoons but it was a bit of a culture shock.
But overall I did enjoy this movie, weirdly it wasn’t what I expected but it was very fun, very entertaining and I can see that it would work for both kids and adults alike. I feel part of the reason I enjoyed it so much was because I am a reviewer and I do watch movies to critique and having the inclusion of people like Keanu Reeves into it was such a weird thing to happen that the critique side of me really enjoyed it, whereas a normal audience member might think wow this is just a bit too weird.
Will I watch this movie again? Probably not. If I’m going to be completely honest while I did enjoy it it’s not my sort of usual film. I watched it because it was new, it was something different, and I wanted something light. So if you want something lighthearted to watch then I would recommend it but be ready for a bit of a weird ride I will say.
What do you think?
Until next time.
