John Lewis Christmas Advert 2020 Review

I don’t see why people are hating on this advert, yes it was different to the usual style but with the way 2020 has been wouldn’t you expect a little different?

In this advert we follow a bunch of different people who help other people in tiny ways that make a big difference to them and this means they pass on this helpfulness to others. It’s a beautiful chain of happiness and love that is being spread around different groups of people but also in different art styles and animation.

I thought it was a very interesting advert because each of the animation styles made sense to the situation that was happening in them. So when it was the snowman putting some of his snow on a snow car to create a wheel for it that had broken, the art style made sense. When it was the neighbour with the giant cracker and the joke inside the cracker, the art style made sense, and so people who are saying that they didn’t understand it or didn’t get it, I think it’s about showing how different animations can bring different story-lines to life in a way that typical real life just cannot bring.

I really liked this advert. I will say it’s not one of the best from John Lewis but for what it was it was beautiful and I think it really encapsulated 2020 because we do need to be more kind and loving to one another, especially in these times where things can be so scary and so uncertain. It’s nice to know that you have a friend and you have someone there even if it’s a stranger smiling at you on a bus or someone giving you that last 5p that you’re missing off of your shopping bill, it’s just nice to know that there are people out there who will help and who will do what they can to be kind and selfless.

I really enjoyed this advert but watch it here and let me know what you think because it has cause some controversy online.

Until next time.
