Big on Christmas You can Always Believe in Review
This may be my favourite food advert for Christmas I’ve seen so far.
This advert starts like any other sort of food advert where we see a family around the table at Christmas, and all the usual cliches of Christmas banter happen, and for that it’s perfectly fine, it’s what you expect. We see little cutaways to the turkey and how much it costs and the wine and the champagne etc…but then there’s a twist.
We are then transported into the future where the same moment happens but with new jokes, like instead of asking people how they find living in Spain, they’re asked how they find living on the moon. The person trying to take a picture of the food that doesn’t understand technology is now working with even more advanced technology, and yet one thing stays constant and that is the food. We are then transported again into the future for a third time and this time we see even more advancements but once again the same original food.
I also appreciated in this advert that they did point out that they also do vegan food in the Christmas selection and I don’t think I’ve seen that in an advert yet. So far food adverts have mainly been about luxury items like salmon and turkey and champagne but seeing a vegan garland being shown on screen too really adds a niche and a special quality to Lidl in that people who don’t eat meat and are on a budget now know where they can go to still enjoy the Christmas food they love without compromise on their beliefs or wallet.
I really enjoyed this advert. I didn’t expect it to go where it did but I really appreciated it. I like how it made the food the forefront but also did it in a quirky, fun way that shows that time and time again you can go back to Lidl and you know you will always get the same quality that you always have. I have shopped in Lidl previously, I love Lidl’s Christmas selection, but even if I hadn’t shopped at Lidl before this advert would definitely pique my interest into shopping with them now.
I really enjoyed this advert. I didn’t expect it to be as good as it was but I think, as I said previously, it is my top food advert that I’ve seen so far. I’m intrigued to see if Kevin the carrot can steal the show again or whether this advert topped it.
Watch the advert here and let me know what you think.
Until next time.
