Imaginary Iggy Review
The second Christmas advert to make me cry.
McDonald’s go down the route of Christmas magic this year with their Reindeer Ready promotion that is basically just their carrot sticks with different packaging.
Imaginary Iggy is a young girl’s imaginary friend that she slowly grows out of as she gets older, and then one day seeing another child offer his reindeer ready snacks to his imaginary friend, does she remember how magical those times were and thankfully Iggy is still there waiting for her in her wardrobe where she hid him all those years ago from her friends who wouldn’t think he was cool.
I feel with Christmas, especially if you are now an adult only household that doesn’t have any kids or grandkids under the age of 18, Christmas is a different vibe. You don’t have the magic or excitement for it that you used to have as a child and the actual day is much more lethargic and slow and relaxed because you haven’t got the craziness of children around you. In some ways that’s great, you can take Christmas at your own pace, but at the same time it’s quite sad because seeing a kids eyes light up at the Christmas tree or seeing the mince pies they left out the night before are now only a few crumbs is so wonderful and this advert encapsulates that and shows you that you don’t have to be a child to enjoy Christmas.
I really feel Christmas magic is what you make it. If you want to have an adult, very mature, very proper Christmas then have it, but if you want that magic of Christmas back again that you had as a child then go find it. Go to your local Christmas lights turn on and spend the evening looking at gorgeous sparkles with your family, go to a local garden centre and explore their Christmas items, buy the festive items in your local coffee shop. The magic of Christmas isn’t gone from the world, it’s gone from you, and only you can bring it back and this advert definitely helped me realise that.
Out of all the food Christmas adverts I have seen this year, including both fast food and supermarkets, this one is definitely my favourite and I think it’s pretty clear why.
Watch the advert here and let me know what you think.
Until next time.
