Best Bit Of Christmas Review

Why does the start of this Christmas advert make me feel like she’s cannibalising people and putting them in her food? Anyone else?

Best Bit of Christmas is Waitrose’s Christmas advert and it follows a woman who is trying to enjoy all the festivities of Christmas but her mind constantly goes back to the food because, as she says, the food is the best part of the day.

In the advert we see deliciously delectable items including turkey, stuffing, mince pies, and all the trimmings and I’ll be honest they do look very delicious. It is an advert that gets your mouth watering and if the price wasn’t so extortionate maybe I’d even shop in Waitrose too.

Of course you have to compare Waitrose and M&S because they are the two middle-class supermarkets of the UK. While the M&S advert was marketed towards families this one feels marketed much more towards the adults who are actually going to be buying the food items, and I feel they succeeded at making you excited for what they have on offer and presented it in such a way that makes you want to eat it, which really is the most important thing when it comes to food marketing.

I really enjoyed this advert. It was simple, it understood what it was doing, it was a bit creepy at times…I don’t know what it is about the main actress but she just gave me a vibe that I did not like, but overall it was a very good middle class advert. It’s just a shame that most people in the UK can’t afford their food because employment crisis and all that.

Watch the advert here and let me know what you think.

Until next time.
