Alice in Wonderland Review
I forgot that this movie was all a dream…
We all know the story of Alice in Wonderland so I won’t bore you with the details but I did find it quite interesting, and this is something I’ve noticed from a lot of classic Disney recently, there is a lot of filler musical moments that really don’t add anything or much to the story and really just seem to be there to pad the runtime.
For example the Tweedle-dee and Tweedle-dumb song about a walrus that goes down to the ocean to collect muscles because they’re in date and then eats them all and doesn’t share them with his crew just seemed really weird and added nothing for the overall story. It was just a fun little tid-bit that did drag on for quite a while.
It was good to go back and watch it because I haven’t seen this movie for absolutely years and really the Alice in Wonderland remakes with Johnny Depp were a bit of a travesty, but I did feel this movie had a lot going on. It was very psychedelic and fun but didn’t have a lot of substance underneath, it was all very top level and while that’s great to watch in your spare time, if you really want a movie to delve into and enjoy the layers of, this is not it.
Unfortunately I came away from this movie thinking that it’s not really one I’d really pick up again unless I was watching it with someone else. I adore Alice in Wonderland! Alice in Wonderland is an absolutely incredible franchise and all of the merchandise that comes from it is beautiful and so intricate and gorgeous, but actually watching the movie I just didn’t enjoy it too much, I got distracted by other things easily and it just didn’t hold my attention or keep me guessing what was going to happen next.
It seemed my brain had forgotten a lot of the story because a lot of it didn’t really matter to the overall storyline and finding out that it was all a dream in the end seemed a bit of a copout, especially as it ended so suddenly. Alice was being chased by the Queen of Hearts and the Mad Hatter and everyone else and suddenly she’s awake and it’s over. It was a bit disappointing and while I will continue to enjoy the franchise of Alice in Wonderland the actual movie I may leave on the shelf.
What do you think?
Until next time.
