Hustlers Review
Let’s be honest, we all watched this movie for J-Lo.
Hustlers is a dramatisation of a true story about a group of strippers who, during the market crash in the 2000s, decide to start hustling men by drugging them and stealing money from their credit cards. It’s a fascinating look at how far people will go to keep up the lifestyle that they have achieved.
This film has a star-studded cast including J-Lo, Lizzo, Cardi B and more, however despite the names I have said here being singers, they also come across as great actresses (some more than others) and are a joy to watch.
I of course got interested in this film because of J-Lo and her character. They are both incredible and interesting people and knowing that it’s based on a true story makes it even more exciting. When the market crashed I was only starting secondary school so I didn’t know too much about what was going on, but seeing how much it affected people was really interesting, especially seeing it from a career that you normally wouldn’t see.
In some ways you shouldn’t be glamorising what these women did. They did do wrong things and of course had to be punished for it, however it was also quite cool to see these women come together and be badasses that went after what they wanted and didn’t need a man to help them with that.
I really recommend this movie. It has a fantastic storyline that made me Google what actually happened in the real world after I watched it. The characters are all very interesting to watch and have their own back stories that really add to their stories. Overall it’s a fascinating story about how far people will go when they are up against the ropes. Would I call it a feminist movie? Not particularly. I don’t think what these women did was right or should be praised, but at the same time it’s nice to see women as the top dog for once rather than men.
What do you think of Hustlers?
Until next time.
