Miss Congeniality 2: Armed and Fabulous Review
I have been revisiting a lot of my old favourite films recently and Miss Congeniality was one of them. I thought it was groundbreaking, really interesting and just a fun experience, and so I decided to watch Miss Congeniality 2 again and unfortunately it was a disappointment.
In Miss Congeniality 2 the character of Gracie Hart seems to have lost her way and the character that we came to know and love in the first film is no longer there. She is tasked with being the new face of the FBI because she can no longer work undercover as too many people know her, but she soon oversteps her welcome when one of her pageant friends, the winner of the beauty pageant, is kidnapped along with the presenter and held for ransom.
Gracie Hart oversteps her line in trying to find these kidnapped victims and causes a lot of issues within the FBI and the people she is working with. Now of course we find out in the end that her wacky way of doing things actually is what saves the two victims but it is definitely not as fun as the first film.
I found this film bought nothing new to the table, it completely changed characters that we came to love in the first one, the new characters that were introduced were good but that was because they were fresh and different and so they had that space to bring something new to the table. But when you completely change a character’s personality from one to another it immediately make them dislikable and and I really couldn’t enjoy this film because of that fact. Gracie Hart was a badass fighting machine and now she’s just another pretty girl who leaves the fighting up to other people and that I’m not ok with.
I don’t feel Miss Congeniality needed a sequel and I do feel it was simply a cash grab because people enjoyed the first film so much. I would never watch this film again, however I would happily watch Miss Congeniality over and over because it actually bought something new to the table of female empowerment, being able to be sexy and strong, and had a lot of laughs along the way too.
What do you think of Miss Congeniality 2?
Until next time.
