Favourite Christmas Songs!

keep calm

Christmas comes with the best music, no one can deny that! The second you hear those jingle bells you know that Christmas is coming and it’s such a magical feeling. To get you into the Christmassy mood I’m going to share my favourite Christmas songs!

Shakin’ Stevens – Merry Christmas Everyone

This is a favourite at my house! My family always play this one and it’s one of those songs that you have to sing along to! Try to listen to this one without having a little boogie, I swear it’s impossible.

Slade – Merry Christmas Everybody

Who doesn’t remember their dad belting out ‘IT’S CHRISTMAS’ at the top of their lungs at the end of this song? This is a song you always hear in the pubs around Christmas and it puts everyone in a good mood. This is definitely a staple in my house and if it’s not played it’s a disgrace! I think I’ve known this song since I was born, it seems like it has always been a part of my life!

Mariah Carey – All I Want For Christmas Is You

Here’s to all you drunken karaoke people! This song is the song that ruins eardrums and gets everyone in a good mood. I love this song and it’s always the top of my list in the Christmas playlist. I could literally listen to this on repeat non stop on Christmas day I just love it that much. I think every teenage girl has had those thoughts of singing it to their crush at least once in their life….oh just me? Hmm.

John Lennon – Happy Xmas (war is over)

Yes I am going a bit sadder here but this song has always been in the back of my mind at Christmas as it holds such an important message. War is over, if you want it. Yes, Christmas is about happiness and being with friends and family, but we should always take a moment to think about other people and the world around us and how we can help them and better it.

The Pogues – Fairytale of New York

Another slightly sadder song but this again has always been around at Christmas. It’s definitely one to be played in the evening as everyone is giving in to eating too much food and drinking too much bucks fizz! It gives me a sense of hope and that things are just going to keep getting better and better. This song is one everyone knows and is definitely one that has to be played at Christmas otherwise it just isn’t Christmas.

Wham – Last Christmas

Probably my nan’s favourite Christmas song (I’m more partial to the Cascada version 😉 ) this song is one that created many parodies in primary school, but, also one of those cute little songs that makes you want to wrap up with a special someone in front of the fire while it snows outside, if that doesn’t scream Christmas I don’t know what does!

Mel and Kim – Rockin’ Around The Christmas Tree

The staple of any primary school Christmas plays! This is the version I grew up with even though there’s plenty of others but it’s definitely one of those songs everyone knows as a child. I definitely loved this song when I was a kid and I remember dancing round the living room to it in my pyjamas!

These are only a few of my favourite songs but these were the ones that stuck out the most. What are your favourite Christmas songs? I hope this is getting you into the Christmassy mood, I know it is for me!

Until next time.
