The Conjuring Review
I recently reviewed The Conjuring 2 and really enjoyed it. As it was Halloween I had to review the original, the one that spawned the sequel and spin off movie Annabelle. I didn’t enjoy the original as much as I did the sequel, shock horror, and I wasn’t a huge fan of Annabelle either.
The Conjuring is based on a true story about a family who are haunted by a poltergeist. They call upon the help of Ed and Lorraine Warren, ghost hunters who do believe the house is haunted. They find out a witch once owned the land and cursed it before she killed herself. She vowed to kill anyone who took her land. Overtime the mother of the family becomes possessed and crazy. The Warrens ultimately save her and the family and all is well. The demon is found through an old Jack in the Box so the Warrens take it to their home and keep it in the room with all their other haunted memorabilia.
A lot of people seemed to love The Conjuring even branding it a classic but I found it a bit tiresome and boring. Not a lot happened really besides a few jump scares and really the scariest thing was that it was based off a true story. The whole exorcism thing was a bit dated and felt like it had all been done before, which obviously it has, you can’t make an exorcism that original.
If you enjoy ghost stories and hauntings then this may be a movie you’d enjoy, but at the same time, even you may find it a bit anticlimactic. The Warrens seem like interesting characters but, to me, they’re just too gritty and a bit lame. There isn’t a lot of oomph to their characters and the rest of the cast was mainly children and you know how child actors go.
If you want an interesting movie try The Conjuring 2. It follows the story of the Enfield Poltergeist and has a lot of twists to it, even asking the question are they faking the hauntings? Don’t watch Annabelle though, that movie was a mess of cliche and jump scares and is definitely not worth your time.
Have you seen The Conjuring? What do you think?
Until next time.
I don’t really like scary movies but I’m always dragged along to them. I thought the second wasn’t scary & it was just really jumpy but it was definitely better than the first 👍🏻
