The YouTube Partner Program

So, you may or may not know that recently a youtuber known as Logan Paul uploaded a very offensive video to YouTube. YouTube did not take it down or de-monetize it but instead put it on the trending page until enough people complained and Logan himself finally decide the bad press was too much.

So how did YouTube rectify this situation? Well they made it impossible to make money from YouTube if you have less than 1000 subscribers and less than 4000 watched hours a year. They’re not punishing Logan, oh no, but rather the smaller creators who have done nothing wrong.

But why? Oh isn’t it obvious? Logan makes them a lot of money. Big youtubers make YouTube a lot of money and so they don’t want to shut them out or lose them as they’re worth too much. But they can’t do nothing with the situation. I find YouTube have completely gone about this wrong and honestly I feel like the whole website is slowly shutting down.

Small youtubers can still make content of course but some need the motivation to do it every day or every week. It also means that creators won’t be shared much and less people will see them thus causing their channel to grow much slower than the already big YouTube names.

Maybe this means only the ‘real’ creators will stay, the ones who don’t care about money, but when you’re creating expensive or time consuming content i.e animators or short filmmakers that small amount of revenue may have meant the difference between following their passion or staying in a job they don’t really want to be in.

Starting up is the hardest part and YouTube should be helping these people rather than shutting them out. Punish the ones in the wrong. I’m sure viewers will be a lot happier to continue using your site instead of just holding on to a few members of the #logang who might leave.

I see YouTube as a ticking time bomb that is self destructing. They seem to care too much about money and not enough about what made YouTube so popular in the first place.

Take away your vloggers and bring back the good old cat videos.

What do you think of this change?

Until next time.
