The Vicar of Dibley was a show I grew up with when I was a kid. So recently rekindling my love for it I decided to rewatch….and I must say the jokes are much better when you’re an adult!

The Vicar of Dibley follows Geraldine a female vicar who goes to work in a conservative town called Dibley. Of course her unorthodox ways are often met with criticism from the locals but things always turn out right in the end.

Alongside Geraldine is a handful of characters that are all iconic and hilarious.

There’s Jim who has an issue with his speech which is played on a lot.

David, the chairman of the council and a very tight prude.

His son, Hugo, a young lad who’s a bit dim witted but charming.

Owen, a local farmer who is basically every typical farmer you’ll ever meet.

Frank, the one who takes the minutes at the meeting and everyone finds incredibly boring but actually has quite an interesting life.

Letitia, who is quite cheeky and invents far too many awful food combinations. Marmite chocolate cake anyone?

And finally Alice a simple girl who helps in the church and is honestly hilarious and sweet all at the same time.

Although this show in some ways is a bit outdated you can still enjoy most of its humour and you don’t need to be religious to do it either. Although it plays on churches and small villages very well even atheists from big cities can still enjoy the jokes at the characters’ expense.

It’s the sort of show that doesn’t age well but is still enjoyable to watch and much like Only Fools and Horses and Porridge it’s one of those classics that once you’ve watched it once you’ll happily go back and watch it again and again.

My favourite episode will always be either the radio show or the nativity. This is one show I can say truthfully I have laughed out loud alone in my room to on several occasions.
