Blair Witch Trailer Review

In 1999 the original Blair Witch Project graced our screens and started a whole new type of horror – the found footage genre. We can thank the Blair Witch for movies such as Paranormal Activity and, of course, it was so popular it has started a bit of a cult following. Thanks to these factors it was only a matter of time before a sequel was created…17 years in fact.

The Blair Witch sequel trailer recently came out and, of course, there’s a lot of hype around it. The Blair Witch was a very popular movie and people still reference it nowadays. The trailer follows a boy who thinks he recognises his sister in some tapes he finds. He goes on a hunt for her with some friends into the famous Blair Witch woods and, of course, things don’t go as planned. This movie was obviously shot as if it was found footage and has the same kind of feel as the first movie. A lot of people are raving about it, but, me, I’m not impressed. The trailer looks like the movie will be practically the same as the original, even copying some of the original scenes, and the characters just seem annoying and dumb. I get horror cliches are everywhere but you don’t have to make them so obvious in your film. You’ve got free rein of so many creative ideas when you make a movie like this yet, it seems, the production team are playing it safe.

I wonder, why now? Why are they bringing out a Blair Witch sequel now? I still believe that people are running out of ideas so are going back to ideas that people will watch, whether good or not, and will make them money. Usually, with movies I am unsure of, I will still go and watch to see if I can be proved wrong but for this one I may just wait for DVD release.

What do you think of the Blair Witch sequel?

Until next time.

  1. There’s a difference between copying the original and paying tribute to it, we can only hope that they do the latter. I’d like to remain cautiously optimistic, but the film fan in me cannot help but be hyped. We can only hope that this turns out well.
