Gavin and Stacey Season Three Review

We have finally come to the end of Gavin and Stacey! What a whirlwind that was. But, I have to be honest, I was kind of disappointed by that ending…

In the final season Gavin has moved down to Barry to live with Stacey and find a home there and Nessa is learning to cope with a new baby, Neil, the baby and her soon-to-be husband Dave while Smithy is still in Essex.

Gavin and Stacey are trying for a baby but find out this may be a bit hard with Gavin’s swimmers not being up to scratch. This is a mute storyline however as Stacey soon finds out she is pregnant and all’s great (it’s only a few episodes long, the storylines can’t drag out too much!).

And things finally come to a head when Smithy and Nessa realise they were right for each other all along and just writing that gave me goosebumps. It turns out Dave is actually a really lovely guy and just lets her go knowing that he will never be truly what she wants. Knowing little Neil the baby is going to grow up with both his parents and is going to have such a great dynamic around him is adorable.

But then we get the ending where we skip forward six months where Nessa, Gavin, Stacey and Smithy are sat near the beach discussing dinner. Stacey is obviously very pregnant and it’s pretty obvious Smithy has come to Barry to live and be with Nessa and his son. Neil, the baby.

It was a cute ending but I was a bit underwhelmed by it. I wanted more, I didn’t need too much but just to see Gavin and Stacey’s baby. See little Neil, the baby, a bit older with his parents. Just something little, something to show that everything has come together perfectly in a neat little bow. That’s all I care about and I feel this ending has left me wanting more. It’s a shame because the ending was good but just a glimpse at Gavin and Stacey’s baby would’ve done me.

Overall, this show is fantastic. It’s so much fun and true to life and weird and random and I have thoroughly enjoyed it. It’s always hard ending a show that is so good but I feel they could’ve done it differently and made the ending even better. I still recommend this show wholeheartedly and urge everyone to watch it.

And honestly, Neil, the baby is the cutest kid I have ever seen! And Nessa’s relationship with him was utterly phenomenal.

What did you think of season 3?

Until next time.
