To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before Review

Everyone, and I mean everyone is raving about this movie. But I thought it was meh, passable at best, yeah I said it!

To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before is a coming of age rom-com about a girl called Lara Jean who writes letters to the boys she has fancied but never expects them to see them. Until her little sister finds them and decides her sister needs a boyfriend and this is a good way of getting one. One of the boys however is a boy called Josh who is her older sister’s ex and obviously that’s off limits. But Josh is basically a pointless character only there to really add tension and drama and he ended up annoying me a lot. There was literally no point to him! I thought she’d end up with him because, to be honest, I hated the main love interest but alas that’s not how these films work now is it?

The main love interest is a boy called Peter. He sets up a plan with Lara Jean where they are going to pretend to be dating so he can annoy his ex. They set about rules and everything but over time they fall in love.

Aw cute right?

Nah.

Honestly I think it’s kind of gross, even if both parties are ok with it, to do that sort of thing. Why can’t he just be honest with his ex? Why does he have to go in a roundabout way to get her back? Maybe he should realise she’s no good for him, she’s moved on so, so should he. But yet instead he comes up with this convoluted plan that basically strings Lara Jean along because he knows she liked him. And it also takes her off the market so any other guy who may have liked her back fully at the beginning wouldn’t get a look in because this guy wanted to use her.

But it turns out Peter wants to be with Lara Jean and not with his ex and they fall in love and it’s all cute and stuff. But I found it pretty boring. People said it’d be a classic one day like Mean Girls or Clueless but it doesn’t have the same oomph that those movies have. I love a good coming of age rom-com like Perks of Being a Wallflower but this just didn’t do it for me. The story was too backwards in my opinion and I honestly think Lara Jean is too good for Peter. She needs to go find her a real man who’ll treat her right properly from the start!

Would I watch this movie again? No I wouldn’t as I know there are many rom-coms movies out there that are much better. Of course make up your own mind but I didn’t like it.

What did you think of To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before?

Until next time.

      • Yeah I found the same but still like to watch it for nostalgia. I feel like To All The Boys is the same way. Like in your youth you’ll love it but with a more adult eye you can poke all sort of holes in it
